Prince Performs Songs Old And New On Jimmy Fallon Stage

Prince is on a roll lately. After years of staying out of the public limelight, the purple one has so far released two singles, “Screwdriver” and “Breakfast Can Wait” this year, as well as taking center stage at the GRAMMYs presenting the award for Record of the Year to Gotye and Kimbra for “Somebody That I Used To Know.”

Friday night, Prince took to the stage of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to perform a new song as well as a classic.

“Our next guest is one of the most legendary and influential musicians of all time,” Fallon said prior to bringing Prince to the stage. He also plugged Prince’s upcoming West Coast tour which is set to begin in mid-April.

The 3rd Eye Girl artwork, created by artist Stella Blu, was prominent throughout the performance, held up by Fallon during the introduction, and then found on t-shirts worn by Prince and his bandmates as well as the drum set. 3rd Eye Girl is the mysterious social media channel reported to have “leaked” Prince works earlier in the year, but which is most certainly part of the Prince master plan for 2013. Fallon also announced that the songs would be available to download at

After finishing his second selection, the guitar-heavy “Bambi” (a track from his self-titled second studio album), Prince gave way to classic rock & roll antics, tossing his guitar to the stage floor as he exited.

In addition to the West Coast dates, Prince is set to headline Switzerland’s Montreux Jazz Festival in July.
