Today In Music History: 11/28/16

Happy Cyber Monday.

Let’s get started with some birthdays. Paul Shaffer, of David Letterman fame, is  67 and  singer/songwriter Randy Newman is 73.

On this day in 1966, The Four Tops released the single “Standing In The Shadows Of Love.”

Let’s jump to this day in 1974, when John Lennon made a guest appearance at an Elton John concert at Madison Square Garden.  It was a payback for Elton and his band helping out with the song “Whatever Gets You Thru The Night.” It was also Lennon’s last stage appearance.

Sticking with former Beatles, it was on this day in 1979 that Ringo Starr’s Los Angeles home burned to the ground, destroying the contents, which included all of his Beatles memorabilia.

And finally we jump to 1984, when Prince gave us  “I Would Die 4 U,” the fourth single from his album “Purple Rain.”
