On this day in 1958 The Quarry Men gave their only performance at the Cavern Club in Liverpool. Three years later the musicians returned as the Beatles.

The Animals sang “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” on “The Ed Sullivan Show” on this day in 1965.

Let’s jump to 1979, when Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys and his wife Marilyn were divorced after more than 14 years of marriage and two daughters, Wendy and Carnie Wilson, who went on to sing in Wilson-Phillips.

On this day in 1982 Diana Ross sang the National Anthem at Super Bowl XVI. The 49’ers beat the Bengals 26-21.

On this day in 1986 “That’s What Friends Are For” by Dionne & Friends was the #1 song.

It was on this day in 2008 that singer Amy Winehouse entered rehab to deal with her addiction to drugs. She passed away in 2011 from a combination of drug and alcohol abuse.
