Today In Music History: 01/31/17

Johnny Rotten of The Sex Pistols is 61 today and Harry Wayne Casey, of K.C. and The Sunshine Band, is 66. Tickets available now to see them at the Downtown Food and Wine Fest.

The history starts on this day in 1969, when The Beatles recorded the master take of  “Let It Be.” Paul McCartney played piano, John Lennon played bass, newly signed Billy Preston played organ, with George Harrison on guitar and Ringo Starr on drums.

The Temptations sang “Get Ready” and “Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)” on “The Ed Sullivan Show,” on this day in 1971.

In 1982, after 956 shows, Sandy Duncan gave her final on-stage performance as Peter Pan.

It’s a Super Bowl twin spin. On this day in 1988 in San Diego, Herb Alpert played the U.S. national anthem and Chubby Checker performed during the halftime show at Super Bowl XXII. The Washington Redskins defeated the Denver Broncos, 42-10.

On this day in 1993, in Pasadena, country music singer Garth Brooks sang the U.S. national anthem and Michael Jackson performed the halftime show at Super Bowl XXVII. The Dallas Cowboys defeated the Buffalo Bills, 52-17.

Singer Britney Spears was taken to a Los Angeles hospital for a mental health evaluation on this day in 2008.
