Today In Music History: 02/16/17

Duran Duran guitar player Andy Taylor is 56 today, “Ice-T” is 59, and James Ingram, 65.

On this day in 1967, The Four Tops released the single “Bernadette.” It would be their last top 10 song of the 60’s.

My Dad’s favorite band when I was a kid, Blood, Sweat & Tears got their turn on “The Ed Sullivan Show,” on this day in 1969.

“Crocodile Rock” by Elton John was the #1 song on this day in 1973.

Let’s stay with Sir Elton. On this day in 1975, “The Cher Show,” premiered on CBS, with guests Elton John and Bette Midler.

On this day in 1990, Ike Turner was sentenced to four years in prison, after being found guilty on eleven separate charges. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame while in jail.

And on this day in 1993 at the Brit Awards, Rod Stewart invited members of his old band the Faces onstage for an impromptu reunion performance. Ronnie Wood, Ian McLagan, and Kenney Jones joined Stewart for renditions of “Stay With Me.” Bill Wyman, the ex-Rolling Stone, sat in for original Faces bassist Ronnie Lane.
