Today In Music History: 02/27/17

The youngest Van Zant is having a birthday today, It’s Johnny turning 57. Ronnie would be 69 if he was still alive and Donnie from .38 Special is 64.

Let’s go way back to 1960, when The Miracles made their first network television appearance on “American Bandstand.” They did the song “Shop Around.”

The Supremes were the mystery guests on the quiz show “What’s My Line?” on this day in 1966.

We jump ahead to 1990, when Janet Jackson gave a preview of her Rhythm Nation World Tour at the Pensacola Civic Center. With over 2 million people seeing the tour it was the most successful debut tour by any recording artist.

Celine Dion made British Chart history, on this day in 1995, by becoming the first artist in more than 30 years to have both the number one album and number one single for five straight weeks.

On this day in 1997, during the taping of one of her shows, James Brown asked television talk show hostess Rolanda Watts to marry him. She declined.

And it was on this day, just two years ago, that we lost Leonard Nimoy at the age of 83. As Spock would say, “Live long and prosper.”
