My wife and I used to watch Dancing With The Stars (DWTS) a long time ago. We haven’t for quite some time though. For some of us, there’s got to be a “special reason” to watch people dance on television. I think I have found a couple of them for this next season of Dancing With The Stars.
Here are the cast members who will be competing for the mirror ball trophy. In alphabetical order…
Simone Biles – Olympic Gold Medalist
Bonnor Bolton – Pro Bull Rider/Cowboy
Charo – Singer, Musician, Actress
Erika Jayne – Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Singer/Performer
Rashad Jennings – Former NFL Running Back (Jacksonville Jaguars, Oakland Raiders, NY Giants)
Chris Kattan – SNL Comic
Nancy Kerrigan – Olympic Medalist and World Medalist Skater
Normani Kordei – Singer 5th Harmony
Heather Morris – Glee
David Ross – Former MLB Player
Mr. T – Actor
Nick Viall – The Bachelor
Some of these names make you wonder. Since Laurie Hernandez won the last coveted mirror ball trophy, what are the chances of teammate Simone Biles keep the streak going for Olympians, or gymnasts for that matter? [Sidebar: I’ve always thought that since they have a choreographer put together routines and they do quite a bit of “dancing” in competition, that maybe it’s NOT fair for them to compete? Thoughts”]
Also, Charo (65 years young) will bring that “spicy – salsa – coochie-coochie” to the show. Just the laughs alone will be worth the price of admission to see her.
Erika Jayne, an up and coming star on the music scene, who has actually performed here in Orlando at the World Famous Parliament House is a lightning rod for controversy due to her risque costumes and performances should be very entertaining. You can also see her weekly on the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” on the Bravo channel.
Of course, for us sports fans, it’ll be interesting to see how former NFL running back Rashad Jennings does. He had the moves on the field, but, will he have them on the dance floor? Last season NFL great Calvin Johnson made it to the Top 3. No pressure Rashad…no pressure.
Chris Kattan of SNL fame has played many characters on the show and in films. However, will he be able to play the role of “dancer” in this competition? Or will he just make us laugh.
Nancy Kerrigan…the skater that was brutally attacked with a police baton and damaged her knee in 1994, which many say affected her career and kept her from winning Olympic Gold. Do you think anyone would do a “skit” hitting her on the knee at the beginning of one of her performances? Is it STILL too soon?! I think it would be a very funny firmly planted “tongue in cheek” moment.
And of course Mr. T. I pity the fool who thinks he can’t win this mirror ball trophy. Maybe he’ll just beat everybody up and take it!
Finally, Nick of The Bachelor. So polarizing to so many viewers. My wife STOPPED watching the show because he was the Bachelor. This time, I wonder if she’ll object to watching because of him. Or will she want to watch him go down in flames.
Early odds for the Top 5 according to USA Today are as follows.
Simon Biles 2/1
Rashad Jennings 6/1
Nancy Kerrigan 8/1
Bonnor Bolton 9/1
Mr. T 10/1
