Today In Music History: 04/03/17

Sebastian Bach, one time singer of Skid Row, is 49 today. Eddie Murphy is 56, Mick Mars, from Motley Crue, is 61 and Tony Orlando is 73.

On this day in 1956, an estimated 40 million viewers watched Elvis Presley sing “Heartbreak Hotel” and “Blue Suede Shoes” live from the deck of the USS Hancock in San Diego.

It was this day in 1965 that we got “Wooly Bully” from Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs.

We jump to 1975 when Steve Miller was arrested at his home for an altercation with a party guest, allegedly setting fire to her clothes and personal effects. The charges were dropped the following day.

On this day in 1984, record producer Jack Douglas was awarded $3 million in royalties owed to him by the John Lennon estate for his work on “Double Fantasy.”

If you’ve ever wondered where the Traveling Wilbury’s got their name, it’s from an expression that George Harrison and Tom Petty would use when there was a glitch in a recording. They would say  WILL BURY it in the mix, traveling was added later.

Let’s stay with former Beatles. It was on this day in 1991, that Paul McCartney taped an episode of MTV’s “Unplugged.”

On this day in 1996, MC Hammer filed for bankruptcy, claiming debts of $10 million.

Happy birthday to Paris Michael Katherine Jackson, she born on this day in 1998.

And lastly it was on this day in 2011 that Adele broke the record for the lengthiest stay by a female solo artist at #1 on the UK album chart. Her second album, “21,” logged 10 consecutive weeks at the top. The previous record was set in 1990 by Madonna with her greatest hits album, “The Immaculate Collection.”
