Today In Music History: 04/06/17

We start on this day in 1965, when Brian Wilson recorded the instrumental track for the song “California Girls.” Thirteen studio musicians played on the session. The vocals, sung by all the Beach Boys, were added on June 4th.

It was on this day in 1967, that the first master tape of the Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” album was created. The Beatles insisted there were to be no gaps between songs, which was then a unique idea.

The very next year (1968) founding member of Pink Floyd Syd Barrett left the group because of his drug use and psychiatric disorders.

The Rolling Stones unveiled their new record label on this day in 1971. It was fittingly named Rolling Stones Records.

It was on this day in 1974, that the first ever California Jam took place. The Eagles, Black Sabbath, Earth Wind & Fire, Seals & Crofts, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Deep Purple, and Black Oak Arkansas performed for a crowd of more than 200,000 people.

On this day in 1979 Rod Stewart married actor George Hamilton’s ex-wife, Alana Hamilton. They divorced in 1984.

Ringo Starr guest-starred as himself on an episode of Fox-TV’s “The Simpsons,” on this day in 1991.

On this day in 1994 “The Sign” by Ace of Base was the #1 song.

Country singer Tammy Wynette passed away on this day in 1998, she was 55.

And on this day in 2009 it was Meatloaf appearing on the T.V. show “House, M.D.”
