Today In Music History: 04/18/17

On tax day I give you a few musicians that have a rather unpleasant relationship with the I.R.S.

Willie Nelson owed Uncle Sam almost $16 million dollars, he has since paid off the balance.
James Brown was down to the I.R.S. to the tune of $4.8 million. They confiscated some of his property and money in accounts. He died still owing money.
Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne owed “Uncle” almost $2 million, they have since settled up.
Lionel Richie owed around $1.1 million, he also has made amends.
Lauren Hill, from The Fugees, opted for prison instead of paying the government. She pled guilty to tax evasion and spent three months in jail.
J. Lo’s ex, Marc Anthony, is still in a rears with the I.R.S. He failed to even file for a full five years. He is still in the process of paying up.

Now let’s get to the real music history for today.

On this day in 1960, Bobby Rydell was a special guest on  “Father Knows Best.”

Alice Cooper had his  first television special on this day in 1975. It was called “Welcome To My Nightmare: The Making Of A Record Album.”

On this day in 1984, Michael Jackson, had scalp surgery in Los Angeles to repair damage done after his hair caught fire during the filming of a Pepsi commercial earlier in the year.

Aretha Franklin set a record for the artist with the longest gap between U.S. #1 singles on this day in 1987. It had been 19 years, 10 months from “Respect” (June 1967) to “I Knew You Were Waiting for Me” (with George Michael). That record is currently held by Cher at just under 25 years between “Dark Lady and “Beleive.”

On this day in 1990 “Nothing Compares 2 U” by Sinead O’Connor was the #1 song.

Bernard Edwards, co-founder of the disco band Chic, died of pneumonia at 43, on this day in 1996.

And in 2012, we lost the great Dick Clark. He had suffered a stroke in 2004, but it was a heart attack that got him at 82.
