Today In Music History: 04/19/17

We’re a little thin today, but I will still do my best.

Let’s start on this day in 1965, when The Beatles released  “Ticket to Ride” in the U.S. Paul McCartney had said that he and John had wrote the song together, but John said that Paul’s contribution was limited.

Speaking of Sir Paul. We jump to this day in 1970, when he sang “Maybe I’m Amazed” on “The Ed Sullivan Show.”

On this day in 1980, for the first time in history, the top five artists on the U.S. country music chart were all female: Crystal Gayle at #1, followed by Dottie West, Debbie Boone, Emmylou Harris, and Tammy Wynette.

On this day in 1981 “Kiss On My List” by Daryl Hall & John Oates was the #1 song.

Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel reunited for a European tour, on this day in 1982, after the success of their New York Central Park concert a year earlier. They were supposed to tour the U. S. next, but tensions between the two prevented that.

On this day in 1987, “The Simpsons” premiered on television as a cartoon segment on “The Tracey Ullman Show.”

And lastly, on this day in 1988, Sonny Bono was inaugurated as mayor of Palm Springs, California. He served for four years.
