Today In Music History: 05/24/17

On this day in 1969, The Guess Who made their U.S. television debut, performing “These Eyes” and “Laughing,” on  “American Bandstand.”

We jump to 1975, when Earth Wind and Fire went to No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘Shining Star’, the group’s first and only US No.1.

 The members of Genesis – Phil Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford – manned the box office on this day in 1980, and sold tickets to their show at the Roxy scheduled for the following night.

We lost Sir Roger Moore just yesterday, so it seems fitting to celebrate one of his movies today. It was on this day in 1985, that “A View to a Kill,” opened in U.S. and Canadian movie theaters.

Paul McCartney performed for the first time ever in Russia on this day in 2003. He had tea with Vladimir Putin, then went to Red Square and performed for about 20,000 people.

Here’s a first and it happened on this day in 2010. John Fogerty’s 1985 hit “Centerfield” was selected to be honored at the National Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies, marking the first time a musician or song has been honored in such a way.
