Cher has sold over 100 million records worldwide and has won a Grammy Award, an Emmy Award, an Academy Award, three Golden Globe Awards, a Cannes Film Festival Award, and is the only female artist to have a #1 song on a Billboard chart every decade from the 60s to the 2010s.
In 1982, she made her Broadway debut in the play Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean. Now Broadway she’ll be debuting her own show next year. Early reports from the New York Post are that it will be a musical about her life.
The star tweeted yesterday, “Just got off phone w/Writer & Director of musical. There will be performance in theatre with actors, dancers, singers. It’ll be on Broadway 2018.”
Insiders are saying that Jason Moore, who directed the Broadway musical Avenue Q (which I personally saw and almost died laughing) as well as the popular a cappella musical comedy Pitch Perfect, is directing the show.
It will also feature a book by Rick Elice, of Jersey Boys, with songs drawn from Cher’s greatest hits.
Cher said that she attended a secret reading of the show this January and tweeted, “I sobbed & laughed, & I was prepared not 2like it. Audience clapped after songs, & gave it standing ovation.”
So, it looks like she did “Turn Back Time!”
