On this day in 1965, The Dave Clark Five performed “Glad All Over” on “The Ed Sullivan Show.”

It was payday time for Jimi Hendrix on this day in 1969. For a single show, he earned $125,000 at the Newport ’69 Festival in Northridge, California. That was the most paid to any single music artist up to that time.

On this day in 1973, “American Bandstand” celebrated its 20th anniversary with an TV special featuring Neil Diamond, Little Richard, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Cheech & Chong, and Three Dog Night.

Chris de Burgh released the single “The Lady In Red” on this day in 1986.

Let’s jump to this day in 2003, on his 54th birthday, Lionel Ritchie received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

And on this day in 2004, Paul McCartney took to the stage as a professional musician for the 3000th time. He had performed over 2500 concerts with the Quarrymen and the Beatles, 140 with Wings and 325 solo shows. It is rumored that the promoters had airplanes spray dry ice into the clouds to keep it from raining during the concert.
