On this day in 1996, Van Halen announced that Sammy Hagar had left the band and would be replaced by their former frontman, David Lee Roth. Sammy has contended that he was fired. The David Lee Roth reunion was short, he was replaced after recording only two songs with the band and one MTV appearance.
