On this day in 1969, “Space Oddity,” by David Bowie,  was released to coincide with the first lunar landing nine days later.

Three Dog Night started a two-week run at No.1 on this day in 1970 with their version of Randy Newman’s song “Mama Told Me Not To Come.”

On this day in 1981, George Thorogood & the Destroyers were the special guests on  “American Bandstand.”

Let’s stay with that show and go to 1987, when it was Richard Marx as the featured guest performer. 

We jump to this day in 1994. The Rolling Stones release “Voodoo Lounge,” the first album without their long-time bass guitarist Bill Wyman, who left the group in early 1993.

On this day in 1995 “Waterfalls” by TLC was the #1 song.

Ricky Martin hit #1 on this day in 1999 with “Livin’ La Vida Loca.” It was number one for five weeks in a row. It picked up multiple MTV awards and was nominated for four Grammy Awards.

Sad news on this day in 2011. Rob Grill, lead singer and bassist for The Grass Roots, died after suffering a head injury from a fall caused by a stroke. He was a resident of Mt. Dora at the time of his death. He was 67.
