Today In Music History: 07/31/17

On this day in 1964 “A Hard Day’s Night” by the Beatles was the #1 song.

We roll to this day in 1973. Stevie Wonder releases “Higher Ground,” a track on which he played all the instruments.

On this day in 1976, Orleans gave us  “Still The One.” It hit #5 on the chart and was used by ABC T.V. to promote their 1977 and 1979 seasons.

When did The Eagles officially break up? It was on this day in 1980. The Eagles were playing a concert in Long Beach, California, when tempers boiled over between Glenn Frey and Don Felder. The last half hour of the show, the two were screaming and yelling at each other, while on stage. Felder was fired from the band in 2001.

And finally, it was on this day in 1981, that Journey released their album “Escape.” It spawned three Top 10 singles: “Don’t Stop Believin'” (which peaked at #9), “Who’s Crying Now” (#4), and “Open Arms” (#2). The album has gone on to sell over 12 million albums world wide. Here’s my favorite song from that album.
