Same day, same year, The Spinners were guest performers on “American Bandstand.”

Olivia Newton-John’s “Magic,” from the Xanadu soundtrack, hits #1 on this day in 1980.

On this day in 1991, Rick James lived up to his song “Superfreak,” as he and his girlfriend were arrested in Hollywood for allegedly kidnapping a record executive and then forcing her to commit sex acts with the couple, while being imprisoned for 20 hours. James was convicted and served two years for that incident, and another similar crime he committed, while out on bail on the first charge.

On this day in 1998, The Beatles are named “Favorite Recording Artist Of All Time” in a poll conducted by the UK music magazine Mojo, beating out Elvis, Frank Sinatra, Queen, and Elton John in that order.

And finally, it was on this day in 2013, that all original Backstreet Boys were on stage together for the first time in almost 10 years. The Boys continue to tour and will in 2018 for their 25th anniversary tour.
