On this day in 1962, Beatles drummer Pete Best was fired in favor of Ringo Starr. Ringo’s first gig with the Beatles occurred on August 18th.

On this day in 1971, The Who released their fifth studio album Who’s Next which featured the song “Won’t Get Fooled Again” and has since been viewed by critics as the Who’s best record and one of the greatest rock albums of all time.

Also, on this day in 1971 Rod Stewart releases “Maggie May.”

We roll to 1976, when Steve Miller released “Rock ‘N Me,” one of his three hit singles not credited to the Steve Miller Band.

Guns’N Roses kick off their first North American tour at a show in Halifax, Nova Scotia on this day in 1987. They’re the opening act for The Cult.

And finally, it was on this day in 2014, that San Francisco said farewell to Candlestick Park with a concert by Paul McCartney. “The Stick,” opened in 1960 and had been the home field of San Francisco’s MLB Giants and NFL 49ers.
