Are you a fan of using emoji’s in your emails? I’ve never really been a fan of the entire emoji thingy but I was using smiley faces before smiley faces were cool. Now saying that according to researchers we might want to hold back on using emoji’s in our work email.
Now many think if we place a cute emoji it will help convey a warmth, or likability or even just a overall fun feel to the email (especially if you are a passive-aggressive person, yeah , we’re on to you!).
Well, scientists indicate that using smiley face emoji in work-related emails can make you seem incompetent – especially if you don’t know the recipient. I think that’s the key. If you don’t know all the recipients of your email do not use emoji’s. The researchers hope their findings will encourage people to think twice before adding emoji to professional emails. Ooh, another key word: professional!
Researchers found that if an email on work-related matters included a smiley emoji, the sender was seen as less competent. Ouch. That’s gotta hurt!
So basically what researchers are saying Grow Up! We are not in 3rd grade and emoji’s are electronic stickers. Leave the cute pink heart for your texts or emails with your friends who already like you. Hey I wonder if this study includes giphy’s? ~grace
