On this day 1972, at a Jefferson Airplane concert in Akron, Ohio, a fight broke out on stage between the band and local police. Lead singer Grace Slick was maced in the eyes, band member Paul Kantner was injured after being thrown to the floor, and bassist Jack Casady was arrested. Spectators threw rocks at the police, who responded with tear gas.

We jump to this day in 1979, when Gary Numan gave us the song “Cars.”

U2 singer Bono got married on this day in 1982 to his girlfriend Alison Stewart. Adam Clayton acted as Bono’s best man. They have four kids and are still together.

On this day in 1987, the soundtrack from the movie “Dirty Dancing” was released.

Rick James was released from Folsom State Penitentiary on this day in 1996 after serving two years of his original five-year sentence for kidnapping and torture.

And finally, it was on this day in 1998, that Journey performed their first concert with new lead singer Steve Augeri. He remained with the band for eight years. Current lead singer Arnel Pineda joined the band in 2007.
