On this day in 2001, the plane carrying singer Aaliyah crashed shortly after takeoff. Aaliyah was filming the video for her single “Rock The Boat” in the Bahamas and was traveling back to Miami when the crash occurred. She was 22 at the time of her death. After investigation, it was found that the pilot was not approved to fly the plane they chartered, and the plane was said to be 700 pounds overloaded.
