Today In Music History: 08/28/17

Let’s start on this day in 1965, when The Lovin’ Spoonful sang “Do You Believe in Magic,” on “American Bandstand.”

In 1968, The Beatles begin recording “Dear Prudence.”

Speaking of The Beatles, one of them had a kid on this day the very next year. Paul and Linda McCartney welcomed their first child, a daughter they named Mary, after Paul’s late mother, on this day in 1969. Here’s a picture of little Mary with Paul, Linda and her sister Heather.

On this day in 1999, in their hometown of Rockford, Illinois, Cheap Trick played a concert celebrating the band’s 25th anniversary.

Since we just had the MTV VMA’s last night, which I did not watch, let’s go back to this day in 2003, and the infamous Britney Spears/Madonna smooch, that happened during the shows’ opening performance.

And finally, it was on this day in 2009, that Noel Gallagher quit Oasis, saying he could no longer work with his brother Liam. According to Noel, the brothers barely spoke, did not travel together and only saw each other on stage. In his statement, the guitarist said, “It’s with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight.”
