Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer and his wife Erica are covering the adoption fees at two Washington D.C. adoption centers through Sunday to make way for misplaced pets from Hurricane Harvey, the Washingtonian reported Thursday.

Both of them have been advocates for homeless animals, adopting four rescued dogs.

The two said they wanted to help make space for the animals affected by Hurricane Harvey. And by helping with adoption fees, it might make it easier to find homes for the current population of shelter animals, which will help relocate animals from Texas.

They will be covering the fees of The Humane Rescue Alliance, which charges adoption fees up to $250 for dogs and $100 for cats. The organization expects to receive dogs and cats from flood-devastated regions in Texas as soon as this weekend.
