I came across this amazing account of survival in this story by The Daily Commercial.
The Pruitts live around the corner from my mother and she told about passing their house on the way to her doctor’s appointment yesterday.
She took note of the house in particular because there was a GIGANTIC oak tree smack in the middle of it.
Sunday night/Monday morning, as Irma increased in strength in Lake County a 1,700 pound oak tree fell on the house. On Cole’s bedroom. Yes, he was pinned to his bed by this tree during the storm. Rupturing his spleen, and breaking several ribs which punctured his lung.
Ten men, Clermont’s firefighters, inspector, police officers, and a building inspector BODILY lifted the tree off of him. Then they had to get him to South Lake hospital for medical attention.
The on-call surgeon was home alone with her very young daughter when contacted, but knew she had to get to Cole. With the eye of the storm approaching, Clermont Police an a heavy duty pickup got her and her daughter to the hospital in time to save Cole.
Thank goodness, Pruitt is expected to recover from his injuries.
A gofundme account has been set up to help Pruitt here.
