Today In Music History: 09/26/17

On this day in 1964, “Gilligan’s Island,”  debuted on CBS, where it ran for 3 seasons. Check out a reunion video I found of the cast members talking about the show!

We jump to this day in 1970, when Motown Records announced that The Jackson 5 had sold 10 million records in nine months.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show opened on this day in 1975, featuring a young Meat Loaf, along with Tim Curry and Susan Sarandon. The movie flopped at the box office, but later, thanks to midnight showings, it becomes a cult classic. I have seen this movie over 100 times.

Prince releases “Purple Rain,” on this day in 1984.

The group Good Charlotte, released their self-titled debut album, featuring the song “Little Things,” on this day in 2000.

It was on this day in 2003, that we lost Robert Palmer. He had eaten dinner and enjoyed a movie, before he suffered a heart attack and died at just 54.

And on this day in 2009, celebrating their 35th season, the premier of “Saturday Night Live” was hosted by actress Megan Fox and featured musical guest U2. I could not find that performance anywhere, so here they are on Jimmy Kimmel.
