Today In Music History: 10/18/17

Happy Humpday!

On this day in 1964, The Animals performed “House Of The Rising Sun” on “The Ed Sullivan Show.”

The animated film “The Jungle Book,” (my favorite movie of my childhood) had it’s world premier in L.A., on this day in 1967.

On this day in 1975, on the second episode of  “Saturday Night Live,” Paul Simon (who was hosting the show) reunited with former partner Art Garfunkel to sing some of their songs including “Scarborough Fair.”

On this day in 1982, Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson released the “The Girl Is Mine,” one of three songs Jackson and McCartney recorded together. “The Girl Is Mine” hit #2 on the Hot 100.

On this day in 1985 “Take On Me” by a-ha was the #1 song.

“The Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1” was released on this day in 1988. The “Wilbury brothers” were Nelson, Otis, Lucky , Lefty and Charlie T. Jr. Can you name who is who? I’ll give you one, Charlie T. Jr. was Tom Petty.

Los Angeles declares it “Rocky Horror Picture Show Day,” on this day in 1991, in honor of the 1975 cult classic.

And it was on this day in 1997, that Hanson sang the national anthem in Miami before Game 1 of the World Series between the Marlins and the Cleveland Indians.
