The hubby and I love animals and we especially love dogs. We lost our first baby boy, 11 year old German Shepherd, 7 months ago and our hearts are still heart broken. We knew we wanted to get another dog to keep our our 5 year old GSD girl company but was not expecting to adopt just yet, and then, I met Natti!
We record videos introducing a pet of the month featured on our “A Cause For Paws” to help with adoptions from the Orange County Animal Services. Two weeks ago, they brought in a what they believed to be a 4 month old Australian Shepherd mix rescued from a home that neglected a litter of puppies. She was anemic and extremely underweight, scared and unfamiliar of human touch. When I held her for the first time she didn’t even know how to cuddle up. I knew instantly she needed someone who would give her a lot of attention, love, safe environment and another happy doggie to show her how to play! I called my husband and said, “Hon’ I found our next baby!”
I named her Natti after a nickname that an aunt of mine had for my mom! I’m happy to announce Natti, who is closer to 7 months old according to our vet, now has safely gained weight and in two weeks is now up to 17.2 lbs, her confidence continues to grow, she loves her crate and has picked up quickly potty training. She has confiscated all of the toys but my big girl knows, she’s a puppy so it’s okay. While we just want to smother her with kisses it’s important she knows there are boundaries and is responding well to our alpha voice.
If you’ve been thinking of getting a doggie or kitty cat, think of adopting one from the Orange County Animal Services. Keep in mind it is a commitment, requires a lot of time and patience, money (they need medical care just like we do) and exercise but what you get in return, PRICELESS!
Hope you enjoy Natti’s first photos as I take you on her journey from the shelter to her forever home. You’ll see a big difference in just a few days; like night and day in her posture! How Blessed are we? ~grace
