On this day in 1968, Sly & The Family Stone release the song “Everyday People.”

On this day in 1977, CBS aired Bing Crosby’s 42nd and last Christmas special. David Bowie was one of the guests, he and Bing , sang the now popular version of  “Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy.”

Pink Floyd’s album, The Wall, gets released on this day in 1979. It features the only #1 single that Pink Floyd every had here in the States “Another Brick In The Wall” (part II) and goes on to move over 13 million copies. 

After nearly eight months in production, it was on this day in 1982, that Michael Jackson released the album “Thriller.” Seven of the album’s nine songs were issued as singles and all reached the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album has sold over 50 million copies to date.

On this day in 1985 “Separate Lives” by Phil Collins & Marilyn Martin hits #1. The song was written by Stephen Bishop and featured in the movie White Nights.

And a little non musical news for you. It was on this day in 1993, The National Football League announced its 30th franchise, the Jacksonville Jaguars.

And a final note, it is William Broads’s birthday today. The man now known as Billy Idol is 62.
