On this day in 1961 “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” by the Tokens was the #1 song. Robert John took a version of the song to #3 in 1972.

In 1969, Diana Ross & The Supremes’ “Someday, We’ll Be Together” hits #1 in the US. It was the last song that featured Diana Ross as part of The Supremes and their last #1 on the pop chart, giving them a total of 12 pop #1’s.

On this day in 1975, The 4 Seasons released the single “December 1963 (Oh, What A Night),” featuring drummer Gerry Polci on lead vocals, with the group’s longtime lead singer Frankie Valli singing the bridge sections and background vocals. It was the final #1 song for The 4 Seasons and was on the chart for a total of 56 weeks.

On this day in 1980, John and Yoko’s Double Fantasy album started an eight-week run at No.1 on the US chart. “Just Like Starting Over” started a five-week stay at No.1 on the singles chart.

Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran wed model Yasmin Parvanah on this day in 1985. They are still married and have three daughters. His oldest Amber Rose is a model and singer and you may have seen her in recent Forever 21 ads.

Here’s a blast from the past. It was on this day in 1999, that Sean ‘Puff Daddy’ Combs and his girlfriend Jennifer Lopez were arrested after a gun was found in their car as they left a Manhattan nightclub. Police were investigating a shooting in the club. No charges were ever brought against J. Lo.
