On this day in 1975, Elvis Presley arranged for his daughter Lisa Marie to meet her favorite singer, Elton John, for her 7th birthday. She had asked her dad for Elton John records for Christmas too.
On this day in 1976, The Eagles release the album “Greatest Hits, 1971-1975.” The album is 30 times Diamond certified with sales over 35 million worldwide. Here’s a pretty cool version of one of my favorite songs on that album. Richard Marx does some guest vocals.
Let’s stay with the Eagles and roll to this day in 1985, when Glenn Frey made his acting debut in an episode of “Miami Vice” based on his song “Smuggler’s Blues.”
1986 is the year, and on this day it was Mike + the Mechanics on “American Bandstand.”
1988 The Cars decided to call it quits on this day in 1988. They got back together briefly in 2010 (minus Benjamin Orr, who had passed away) cut an album and did a brief reunion tour. It lasted only 11 shows with their final one in August of 2011 at Lollapalooza.
Since it is Super Bowl time, let’s visit this day in 2009, when Bruce Springsteen took over the half-time duties at Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa.
