On this day in 1964, The Beatles play the Ed Sullivan Show for their first US TV appearance. The show had received over 50,000 applications for the 728 seats in the TV studio. Here’s a little known fact. Davy Jones also appeared on the show with the cast of Oliver.

On this day in 1972 “Let’s Stay Together” by Al Green was the #1 song.

Terry Jacks sang “Seasons In The Sun” on “American Bandstand,” on this day in 1974. The show also featured an appearance by Al Wilson singing “Show And Tell.”

On this day in 1983, Prince releases “Little Red Corvette.” It became his first Top 10 hit.

1985, Madonna had your #1 album on this day in 1985 with “Like A Virgin.” It stayed there for three weeks and to date has sold well over 10 million copies.

Let’s jump to this day in 1997, when the lead singer of the band Sweet passed away after multiple heart attacks. His name was Brian Connolly, the voice you heard on “Fox On The Run,” “Ballroom Blitz,” “Love is Like Oxygen,” and others.

And on this day in 2012, it was Paul McCartney receiving  a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the last of the four Beatles to be honored with a solo star.
