Let's start on this day in 1969, when the 5th Dimension hit #1 with "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In." It would hold the top spot for 6 weeks.

Stevie Wonder became one of the first contemporary music stars to appear on "Sesame Street." It happened on this day in 1973 and he sang his song "Superstition."

On this day in 1975, Elton John's "Philadelphia Freedom," named after the professional tennis team his friend Billie Jean King coached, hit #1 on the Hot 100. It was Elton's 4th of 6 No.1's in the early and mid 70's.

On this day in 1979, Mickey Thomas was recruited to be the new lead singer of Jefferson Starship. Mickey got his start by singing back-up vocals for Elvin Bishop and then taking the lead for their #3 hit "Fooled Around And Fell In Love."

Olympia, Washington declared it to be "Louie Louie Day," on this day in 1984. The stunt was an attempt to make the song by The Kingsman the official state song of Washington. The attempt was unsuccessful.

And finally, it was on this day in 1999, that the Backstreet Boys released the song "I Want It That Way." It was the lead single from their third album Millenium, and would hit #1 in over 25 counties, but peaked at #6 here in the US.
