On this day in 1964, while on tour with Chuck Berry, the Animals record "The House Of The Rising Sun" in one take. The song would hit #1 and be included in Rolling Stone Magazines' 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

Your #1 song on this day in 1971 was "Joy To The World" by Three Dog Night. They would have three #1's overall and seven singles that sold over a million copies. Pretty good for a band that didn't write one of their hit songs.

On this day in 1974, Ray Stevens hits #1 in America with "The Streak," his novelty song about a streaker. It was Ray's second #1 after "Everything Is Beautiful."

After multiple artists turned the song down, it would be Simple Minds with the last laugh, as "Don't You (Forget About Me)" hits #1 on this day in 1985. Being the closing song of a huge teen movie like The Breakfast Club probably didn't hurt either. The song was written by the same guy that wrote "Flashdance...What a Feeling."

And finally, it was on this day in 1999, that The Backstreet Boys released their second album, Millennium. It was nominated for five Grammy Awards, spawned four Top 40 singles, including "I Want It That Way" and sold over 24 million copies. I case you are wondering, The Backstreet Boys have roughly sold three time as many albums as N'SYNC.
