On this day in 1969,The Guess Who make their debut on American television, singing "These Eyes" and "Laughing" on American Bandstand. "These Eyes" would peak at #6.

Earth, Wind & Fire's "Shining Star," a song celebrating the band's credo of clean living and spiritual health, hits #1 in America on this day in 1975. It would end up being the band's only #1.

 On this day in 1980, one day before their show at the Roxy, the members of Genesis – Phil Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford – manned the box office and sold tickets.
 
The Spice Girls album Spice hits #1 in the US, on this day in 1997, making them the first, all girl British act, to reach #1 in the US with their debut album. It featured "Wannabe," a song that would become the biggest selling song by a female group of all time.
 

Let's finish up on this day in 2003. Paul McCartney has tea with Russian premier Vladimir Putin and then goes to Red Square for his first concert performance behind the "iron curtain." The audience was estimated to be about 20,000 people. Of course, I am selecting this song from the concert
