On this day in 1964, Manfred Mann recorded "Do Wah Diddy Diddy," which is actually a cover, the song was originally done by a group called The Exciters. Manfred Mann's version would hit #1 in October.

On this day in 1977, your number one song on the radio was by KC and the Sunshine Band.  "I'm Your Boogie Man" would hit the top spot and give KC his 4th #1 song.

4 years after the original, it was on this day in 1982, that Grease 2 with Michelle Pfieffer, lands in theaters... but crashes and burns. The film would gross $15 million, but that pales in comparison to the $400 million the original has grossed world wide.

It was on this day in 2002, that American Idol premiered on the FOX network. Winners include Kelly Clarkson, Carrrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks and Phillip Phillips. Many second and third place finishers also went on to musical stardom. The show was reintroduced by ABC in 2017.

On that same day, Paul McCartney would marry Heather Mills, with Elton John, Ringo Starr and others in attendance. They would divorce 6 years later with Heather Mills getting a lump sum of over $30 million.

And it was tragedy here in Orlando on this day two years ago, when a gunman opened fire at The Plaza LIve theater killing 22-year-old Christina Grimmie. Known for placing third on Season 6 of The Voice, she was signing autographs for fans when she was shot.
