On this day in 1975, Captain and Tennille hit #1 for the first of four weeks with "Love Will Keep Us Together." The husband/wife team would go on to have 6 top 5 singles and started as backup musicians for Elton John and Neil Sedaka.

Let's roll to this day in 1981, when Walter Becker and Donald Fagen of Steely dan announce they are splitting to work on solo projects. They would re-form in 1993. Walter Becker would pass away in 2017.

Genesis score their fourth No.1 album on this day in 1986 with "Invisible Touch." It remained on the charts for 96 weeks, making it the most commercially successful album of their career, eventually selling over 15 million copies worldwide and producing five US Top 5 singles, including the title track.

And finally, it was on this day in 1988, after a six-month delay, that Information Society release their debut album. The delay was a result of the owners of the Star Trek fanchise deciding whether it was ok to use "Pure Energy" voiced by Spock in the song "What's On Your Mind." Clearance was given and the song spent 25 weeks on the chart and peaked at #3. For my Trekkies, the episode that line is from is "Errand of Mercy."
