Let's start on this day in 1985, when Bryan Adams starts a two week run at No.1 on the Hot 100 with his power ballad "Heaven." It would be his first No.1 single and was inspired by "Faithfully" by Journey, who he toured with two years before.

We go to this day in 1988. Robert Palmer releases "Simply Irresistible." The song was not a hit, in his native UK, peaking at #44. It fared much better here in the states, where it landed at #2. "Sweet Child 'O Mine" was the #1 song at the time.

On this day in 1990, Billy Joel becomes the first rock act to play at Yankee Stadium, when he performs at the first of two sellout shows. His setlist included all his big hits opening with "Storm Front" and closing with "Piano Man."

Todd Rundgren marries Michele Gray on this day in 1998. It was his 50th birthday, so they decided to have the wedding in Hawaii, the 50th state, just to be funny.

And finally, it was Coldplay hitting #1 on the UK and US singles charts, on this day in 2008, with the song "Viva La Vida", their first in both countries. History was made by the single, being available by internet download only. The song won a Grammy Award for Song of the Year in 2009.
