On this day in 1969, One Hit Wonders Zager and Evans start a six week run at No.1 here in the US with "In The Year 2525." The song was would also hit No.1 in the UK, making them the only one hit wonders to ever top the charts in both countries.

Local band Fritz opens for Janis Joplin, on this day in 1970, at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds in California. The lead singer of Fritz is Stevie Nicks, who is awestruck watching Joplin perform. The next time watch Stevie in concert check out her Joplin moves.

Let's run to 1979, when singer Minnie Riperton dies of breast cancer at age 31. She is known best for her million selling, No.1 song "Lovin' You." She also sang backup for Chuck Berry, Etta James, Muddy Waters and more.

On this day in 1986, Simply Red scored their first #1 song, here in the US, with "Holding Back The Years." Simply Red singer Mick Hucknall wrote the song when he was seventeen, while living at his father's house. The chorus did not come to him until many years later.

And finally, it was on this day in 1988, that Michael Jackson arrived in the UK for his first ever-solo tour. He performed a total of eight nights for close to a billion people.
