On this day in 1965, King Records releases the song "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" by James Brown. The song went on to sell over 2 million copies and receive the Grammy Award for best for Best Rhythm & Blues Recording. It is also considered one of the first ever "funk" songs released.

The Guess Who perform at the White House, on this day in 1970, for President Richard Nixon and his royal guests, Prince Charles and Princess Anne. They do not play "American Woman" at the request of the President, as a show of respect for the royals visit.

On this day in 1976, Heart releases "Magic Man." The song is Heart's first top 10, peaking at #9 and was about Ann's relationship with the bands manager at the time.

Endless Love, starring Brooke Shields, hits theaters on this day in 1981. The film is quickly forgotten, but the theme song, a duet by Lionel Richie and Diana Ross, spends nine weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earns Richie an Academy Award nomination.

And finally, it was on this day in 1993, that Guns N' Roses appear at River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in front of 80,000 people. It was the final show of their Use Your Illusion Tour. It was also the last time Axl Rose and Slash were on stage together until 2016 when the band reunited.
