On this day in 1969,The 5th Dimension's two lead singers, Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. get married. The duo scored their own hit in 1977 with "You Don't Have To Be A Star (To Be In My Show)." The couple is still together, he's 80, she is 74.

On this day in 1975, Van McCoy's "The Hustle" hits #1. The song would sell over 1 million copies and win a Grammy Award.

We lost a great band on this day in 1976. With endless touring and recording, as well as various addictions, tearing the band apart, Three Dog Night played their last concert in San Francisco, California. Different variations of the band have reunited and toured, but one of the original lead singers, Chuck Negron, has never returned to the band.

On this day in 1980, The Rolling Stones would hit #1, here in the US, with the album Emotional Rescue. It was the group's eighth US #1 and stayed in the top spot for seven weeks straight. It also happens to be Mick's 75th birthday today.

And finally, it was on this day in 1986, that Peter Gabriel hit #1 in with "Sledgehammer," bumping his old band, Genesis (with "Invisible Touch") out of the top spot. The song won 9 MTV Music Video Awards and is the most played video in MTV history.
