Let's start Today in Music History with a true party song. It was on this day in 1966, that The Troggs' "Wild Thing" would hit #1. The song it knocked out of the top spot? "Hanky Panky" by Tommy James and the Shondells.

On this day in 1969,The Beatles record five songs at Abbey Road Studios including "Come Together." The song would be released as a double A side with "Something." Both singles would reach the top of the charts here in the US.

On this day in 1977, The Bee Gees younger brother Andy Gibb started a four-week run at No.1 with the song "I Just Wanna Be Your Everything." It would be his first of three consecutive #1's.

"Roll With It" by Steve Winwood hit #1 on this day in 1988. The song was nominated for two Grammy Awards and 5 MTV Video Music Awards.

And finally, it was on this day in 2006, that the biggest selling single of the 21st century by a female artist, hit #1 here in the US. The song is "Hips Don't Lie" by Shakira feat Wyclef Jean. It would hit #1 in 55 different countries and sell over 10 million copies worldwide.
