The Beatles start Today in Music History hitting #1, on this day in 1965, with the song "Help!" The song would stick in that spot for 9 straight weeks.

Speaking of No.1's, KC and the Sunshine Band would get their third #1, on this day in 1976, with "(Shake Shake Shake), Shake Your Booty." The song would also hit the top spot on the Billboard Soul Chart.

On this day in 1982, John "Cougar" Mellencamp became the only male artist to have two singles in the Top Ten as well as the No.1 album. "Jack and Diane" was No.4, while "Hurts So Good" was at No.8. His album "American Fool" was at No.1 for the first of nine weeks.

Peter Gabriel cleaned up at the MTV Awards, on this day in 1987, winning best video, best male video, best concept video, best special effects and five other awards for the track "Sledgehammer." The song had already hit the #1 spot on the Hot 100 in July of 1986.

And one more for the road. On this day in 1993, Mariah Carey hits #1 with her song "Dreamlover." It would stay there for 8 weeks and be Miss Carey's 7th #1 single.
