Do You Remember Hurricane Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne?

It's been 15 years since Florida was the target of four named hurricanes!

We moved to Orlando in 2000. Our first hurricane encounter in 2004 was to prepare us for what would be a record year for named hurricanes hitting Florida. In 2004, Florida got hit by Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne. We were exhausted but learn to prepare and stay prepared thanks to Charley!

It's been 15 years since Hurricane Charley aimed its eye straight at Central Florida. After Charley we still had to go through two more directly affecting us Frances and Jeanne.

What I remember best of Charley is that it was a fast moving storm. We lost power for only three days and because it was a weekend our little circle neighborhood got together, helped each other clean up the mess and even had breakfast and dinner cook-outs. Sharing our food, drinks, ice etc. I remember so clearly when the power came on late Sunday afternoon we all said a collective, "Awwwww." While the hurricane itself was scary; how it brought my little neighborhood together was wonderful.

Frances was a drag and depressing. It went on forever and mostly dropping a lot of rain on us. If I'm remembering the hurricane correctly.

And I was working at my first radio station and we did a cruise and you guessed it, we were out at sea during Jeanne. That was NOT fun!

Overall, I'm glad we experienced the different kinds and frequent hurricanes that year. We learned, in my home, to not take hurricanes lightly. When its time to prepare you prepare. Do not expect the government be it local or state or federal to help. Hence, why we prepare. Be safe. And click here for more tips.

What is your memory of Charley or any of the other hurricanes of 2004? ~grace
