I don't own one of these personal smart speakers, I don't even use Siri on my phone. The only people listening to my conversations are my neighbors and my doggies! However, if you own one of these gadgets Oh Oh! The problem is she’s always listening – and so are thousands of Amazon workers, according to a report.

So here's the deal while millions of people have the company's smart speakers in their homes and Amazon employs thousands of workers in different countries around the world to analyze snippets of audio picked up by the devices. The company says its goal is to help improve the software's understanding of language to better answer user requests.

While it’s true that technically Amazon listens, the employees are required to sign non-disclosure agreements about what they hear, and Amazon says only a small fraction of audio is listened to and analyzed. Now workers said they sometimes use internal chatrooms to share recordings they find amusing. Do you blame them? It's like a real reality show.

If you don’t want to be in the mix of what is listened to, you can opt out of having your voice recording used in development of new features in the software's privacy settings. In case you’re wondering, there are even protocols in place for when possible crimes are heard.

I can see the good and bad in this device listening all the time. It's when the device is used against you that it's bad. Is that even legal? Don't you love technology? Hmm, more like a love/hate relationship with technology. ~grace
