Driver Used Case Of Beer As A Booster Seat For Child

Police spotted the child riding shot gun!

July 12, 2019

Growing up as a kid we didn't have the strict driving laws we do now. As a kid, I used to stand up in the middle of the front seat with mom and dad. My brothers and I would crawl into the small crawl space in the back window obstructing dad's view. Seat belts were never used. Wow, how did we survive? Guardian angels and dad was an awesome driver I imagine. So when I read this headline, my first reaction was to chuckle but then I realized, this is dangerous.

In Canada, Ontario police pulled over a driver after spotting a 2-year-old riding shotgun -- strapped to a case of beer doubling as a booster seat. Wow! Creative? Yes.Dangerous? You betcha'!!

The 22-year-old driver was charged with failing to ensure a child was properly seat-belted. The police also notified child services.

Police say the law requires children under 40 pounds to be secured in a child car seat and children under the age of 8 and 80 pounds require a booster seat.

The police tweeted this incident includine in a separate tweet, police said the case of beer was factory sealed, so the driver was not in violation of open container laws. Well, thank goodness for that right? ~grace
