Why wasn't this an option to begin with is beyond me but I'm glad it is now an option for many families on the SNAP program.

I just begun to shop for my groceries online when this COVID19 'Stay-at-home' orders came through and I thought, no biggie I'll just order online. While it is easy, there are definite limitations and it doesn't help now that a lot of much needed items are not in stock (toilet paper) so you are somewhat forced to go to the store any way. However, if you are on th SNAP program and let's say you are elderly or with some illness that places you high on the risk list, it is imperative to make online grocery shopping an option.

State Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried announced Saturday that the U.S. Department of Agriculture had approved the online-purchase plan for Florida’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, known as SNAP.

In a statement Fried said “Through this innovative pilot program, SNAP households can purchase food online and pay using their EBT card at pickup, among other options...This reduces shopping risk from COVID-19, helps fulfill consumer demand and keeps Florida-grown products moving to families.”

Now, before you do this online shopping check ahead and make sure the store you are ordering from are indeed able to accommodate you. This is great news and will help us as a community in defeating this virus.

God Bless. ~grace
