Orlando Has A Pro Football Team!

'Orlando Apollos' announced as upcoming Alliance of American Football team

September 20, 2018

I remember our last local football team "The Orlando Rage" arena football. That was fun football so when I heard this morning about our new local pro football team that will be playing at UCF's stadium I literally yelled, "YES!"

The Alliance of American Football (AAF) announced on their website that the City Beautiful will have a football team officially named the 'Orlando Apollos.'

A writer for the AAF writes the team's name comes form Apollo, the Greek god of sun and light, depicted with an arrow pointing East toward Florida, which is what you see in the teams eblem. The team logo also includes the warm Florida sunshine and that's reflected in the orange hues in the logo.

The new coach is quoted in the Orlando Sentinel, “I love the name,” says Steve Spurrier, the legendary Head Ball Coach who will lead the Apollos into their inaugural season beginning in February of next year. “There were 17 Apollo space missions and now we’re on another mission. Our mission is to win the Alliance championship and bring another trophy home to Orlando."

I agree. That's what I originally thought when I heard the name since we are a major part of American history with our space coast and all the Apollo missions!

Reports say roster signings are said to currently be underway and the Apollos first game will be in February, a week after the Super Bowl.

Works for me! YES! ~grace
