Do you remember Ross Perot? I do. I really liked him too. I remember my dad, a hard core Democrat, said the same thing. He really was very convincing in what he said about our economy.

Ross Perot was a non-politico businessman back in 1992 that ran as an Independent twice for U. S. President. He made so much sense he got many to vote for him instead of G.H. Bush and some say lead the way to Bill Clinton being elected.

A famous quote of his was ""That sucking sound you hear is the sound of US jobs going to Mexico." regarding NAFTA. He was right. Living on the border many of our companies went south...fast!

Ross Perot was a self-made billionaire. A pioneer of the computer services industry, who founded Electronic Data Systems Corp. in 1962 and Perot Systems Corp. 26 years later.

In Perot's first presidential run, he was able to grab 19 percent of the popular vote without winning any electoral college votes, sealing Bill Clinton's victory over President George H.W. Bush. Perot ran for president again in 1996 but pulled in less than half as many votes as his previous bid.

Perot Jr. said his dad truly loved the country, and that's why he ran for president, "It wasn't for personal gain," he said. "He was a businessman, frustrated by what was going on, and wanted to help fix the country."

In 1979, two of Perot's employees were taken hostage by Iran. Perot directed a successful rescue mission composed of his employees led by retired Green Beret Col Bull Simons. Perot himself went to Iran and entered the prison where his men were held.

Some of Perot's famous quotes:

  • "We've shipped millions of jobs overseas and we have a strange situation because we have a process in Washington where after you've served for a while you cash in and become a foreign lobbyist"
  • "A weak currency is the sign of a weak economy, and a weak economy leads to a weak nation"
  • "The budget should be balanced, the treasury should be refilled, the public debt should be reduced and the arrogance of public officials should be controlled"
  • "I’ve had wonderful parents and I have a magnificent wife. I have great children. That’s real wealth. Young people who make their money their god are inevitably in for a big disappointment"
  • "Debt is like a crazy aunt we keep down in the basement. All the neighbors know she’s there, but nobody wants to talk about her
  • "What’s the most important thing you can tell me about leadership? I’d say, ‘Just treat people the way you’d want to be treated."

Amen to that sir. Thank you for making the world we live in a better place with your knowledge and love of God and country. RIP Ross Perot. ~grace

Thank you to @JackProsebiec from @OANN for the Ross Perot quotes.
