Sandbags Available In Seminole, Orange And Other Counties

Preparing ahead of tropical weather this weekend.

With all the daily news of Covid-19 we may have forgotten we are in Hurricane Season and right on schedule we have tropical storm heading our way this weekend, Isaias.

Seminole County officials announced sandbags will be available for all county residents at Boombah Seminole County Sports Complex Overflow Parking Lot, located at 3450 East Lake Mary Boulevard in Sanford. You are encouraged to bring your own shovels and plan to fill and load your own sandbags. Empty bags will be provided. There is a limit of 15 sandbags per household and the center will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Orange County also helping local residents with five sandbag locations available open now through August 1. Supplies are limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Each resident that participates in the sandbag program will receive 10 sandbags, disposable face masks and hand sanitizer. The locations:

  • Barnett Park - 4801 W. Colonial Drive, Orlando, FL 32808
  • Downey Park - 10107 Flowers Avenue, Orlando, FL 32825
  • Bithlo Community Park - 18501 Washington Avenue, Orlando, FL 32820
  • Meadow Woods Park - 1751 Rhode Island Woods Circle, Orlando, FL 32824
  • West Orange Recreational Complex - 309 S. West Crown Point Road, Winter Garden, FL 34787

For those of us who have lived here for years we know that storms are unpredictable, they may drop a lot of water, damage and then they may not, so it's better to be prepared.
